Safety & compatibilityDetails about boot headers, backups and recovery

Experimental firmware. This release has not been fully qualified on physical FM1 hardware. Installation can make the device unusable. Keep a verified backup and an independently proven recovery method. The installer does not back up user data.

Cross-firmware compatibility. The source firmware must approve the package during its own CHECK stage. No failed CHECK is bypassed. For older ETCH FM-1_1038, AUTO uses the original V15 boot-header variant. Never force a mismatched header.

Stock restoration. Official V15 restoration requires the genuine, hash-verified V15 file and a functioning USB updater. It cannot recover a device whose updater is inaccessible.

Use a USB data cable and close other MIDI apps. Keep the FM1 connected until the installer verifies its reboot.

EVENT LOG

READ-ONLY DEVICE CHECK only sends identity queries; it does not start any update or write to flash. A reboot between CHECK and FLASH is expected. If it reconnects to the old version instead of the OTA loader, the log records it. Save the log if an update fails.

A successful USB transfer is not enough. This installer reports success only after the FM1 restarts and returns the exact expected firmware identity. Cross-firmware installation requests the normal device-side CHECK first; a failed CHECK is never bypassed.
